There are no validated universal ratio bands for face shape, so this tool does not invent numeric cut-offs. It compares the four displayed image measurements: the widest of forehead, cheekbone, and jaw suggests a heart, diamond, or triangle profile; when face length is the largest measurement it reports a long profile; otherwise it reports a balanced profile. Round versus square, and oval versus oblong, cannot be reliably separated from these four widths alone and are shown as uncertain rather than guessed.

A face shape detector can identify your likely outline, but it cannot tell you whether a frame will slide, pinch, feel front-heavy, or work with your everyday hairstyle. Use the result to narrow your choices. Then test fit, measurements, and comfort before you buy.

Start With the Face Shape

Pull hair away from your forehead and jaw. Use a straight-on photo with level eyes and even light. Compare forehead width, cheekbone width, jaw width, and face length.

If two labels seem close, keep both. The next step is more useful than arguing over a borderline result.

Use Frame Size Before Frame Stereotypes

Round faces are often steered toward angular frames, while square faces are often steered toward round or oval frames. That can be a useful visual shortcut. It is not a fit test.

Check the three numbers printed inside a frame arm. For example, 53-16-148 means a 53 mm lens width, 16 mm bridge width, and 148 mm temple length. The numbers describe frame geometry; they do not promise comfort.

A practical optical-centre screening formula is:

(lens width + bridge width − pupillary distance) ÷ 2

A result near 0 is treated as the best match in this rule of thumb. A result below 3 is commonly treated as ideal, 3–5 as workable, and above 5 as a reason to reject the frame. This is a shopping heuristic, not a substitute for an optician’s fitting.

For round faces, long layers, side movement, or curtain pieces may create a longer visual line. For oblong faces, width at the sides or a fringe may reduce the feeling of excess length. But natural curl, cowlicks, hair density, maintenance time, and the usual part should decide whether the style is realistic.
